Mental Health Awareness Month: Part 1 | Part 2

This year also marks 20 years since I lost my uncle to this disorder by way of suicide. He may not have a voice anymore but I do and I felt I should use it. You can’t really condense a disorder like this down to six panels, so consider this a very simple crash-course if you will for getting some basic understanding of schizophrenia- I definitely encourage you to do your own research and reading on the subject. The info here was pulled from reading many, many sources, articles by professionals and personal accounts.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Bonus fact: The term
psychopath/sociopath are not official terms used in psychology, but even then these terms do not apply to schizophrenics- they’re usually used to refer to Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD).  ASPD, like schizophrenia, DID and many other disorders are also highly misunderstood and stigmatized.

EDIT: Fixed some phrasing in the above comment to prevent confusion about  what category the three disorders above belong to.

This is part one of hopefully 2(?) more during this month. I welcome input it there’s a specific topic you want to see regarding schizophrenia. I’m by no means an expert, but want to do my best to shed a little light on it.
